Folio 260: Conway to Lennox. Reports the signing of the Canada convention. He has given Guerchy the account of the East India Company for the maintenance of French prisoners of war. Britain will take no part in the affairs of Geneva but will leave mediation to France, Bern and Zurich. She will feel free to act if Geneva's independence is threatened. He comments on the severity of the storm at Gibraltar [see f.226]. Irwin demanded an explanation from Crillon. There is no further need to be concerned at the death of the pretender. Encloses f.266, in answer to SP 78/268 ff.116, 118, 127 about Newfoundland. Also encloses f.293.
