Folio 127: Memorial from the court of France. Palliser returned 22 men from long-boats taken fishing between St. Pierre and Miquelon and the coast of Newfoundland but he kept the boats. French fishermen have every right to fish off their islands and could not observe the three league limit, where the straits are so narrow. An English privateer fired on a house on the Isle aux Chiens and the British virtually blocked the straits with their schooners. A British schooner seized a French boat off Belle-Isle, where France is entitled to fish. There are other complaints.
Date and place: 1765 Nov 21 Fontainebleau.
