It contains: 1) a remonstrance against impious and irreligious books; 2) a statement about the rights of the Spiritual power, interference by the Parlement about the Bull Unigenitus and the annulment of monastic vows; 3) an affirmation that the Bull Unigenitus is an article of faith. This declaration is thought to have been prepared by the Archbishop of Toulouse and has been suppressed by the Parlement. The King has given an evasive reply. They must make a free gift of 12 million (? livres) or the King will levy the tax in any case. Mezières is being recalled from Dunkirk. Law-abiding Britons will be in no danger there.
