Description

Folio 45: Hertford to Halifax. The Brown affair escalates. Praslin is reasonable but refutes British interpretation of Articles 4 and 5 of the Treaty of Utrecht and says that Brown's insolence means he must leave or go to prison. Hertford had criticised Mezières. Choiseul, in a rage, claimed that Valder and Booth had both been expelled previously and that Desmaretz and Frazer had behaved so indiscretely that they could not be allowed to remain in France. Encloses ff.52, 55, also f.50. A return by the members of the Parlement of Brittany to their normal functions is expected. D'Argental, Minister of Parma, reports the Empress Queen's intention to move troops to assert her right to the fiefdoms of Pregola and Corré. Sardinia may oppose by force.
