Folio 57: Hertford to Halifax. Praslin says Guerchy has reported three warships fitting out for West Africa. The point at issue is a small fort on the Gambia river. France is always ready to negotiate but such action will only endanger peaceful relations, for she could not overlook such an insult. [See SP 78/263, references of Albreda]. Praslin complains of British interference between France and Sweden and hostility at every turn. Choiseul repeated the above. Podewils, son of the late Prussian minister, is in France, professing to be entirely unofficial. Hertford is suspicious. Encloses ff.62 to 70.
Date and place: 1765 Jan 16 Paris.
