Folio 82: Hertford to Halifax. Reliable intelligence states that the Grand Vizier told the French ambassador that Turkey so disapproved of the illegal Polish election, supported by Russia, that she would be ready to send troops, if France and Austria did the same.Starhemberg has urged France to recognise the present King of Poland and present hostile measures by Turkey. France and Austria are likely to recognise the election. The question of compensation for Saxony remains. He refers to orders to the West Indies, to the case of d'Eon and Vergy and to the settlement of accounts between France and Britain.
