Folio 56: Hertford to Halifax. He has been promised a copy of orders sent to ensure free navigation in the West Indies but is unable to get the French offices concerned to hurry. He points out how he did clearly demand reparation in his two memorials [see ff.8, 34, 40]. He refers to SP 78/263, f.176. Choiseul has given him an original letter from Vergy [f.59], which he encloses. Both Praslin and Choiseul are enraged at Vergy and at the inadequacy of the British Law to deal with him.
