Folio 132: Halifax to Hertford. Encloses depositions from the commander in chief of the Bermuda islands [ff.138 to 144]. Hertford is to express the view that d'Estaing is unsuitable to hold his post. He refers to the events of 1753 and 1754 and maintains Britain's rights in the area. He is to pin down the French to their last proposal to pay £667,700 sterling in three years and four months for prisoners of war. He is surprised that Hertford has not already protested about the Canada bills on receipt of f.43.
