Folio 190: Hertford to Halifax. He had protested to Praslin about the liquidation of the Canada bills without consultation. Praslin had referred to the abuses and corruption connected with their issue. He and Choiseul spoke in a conciliatory way about the accounts for prisoners of war. The Dunkirk negotiations are now in the hands of Guerchy. The plans for an alliance between France, Austria and Spain are suspended. Spain would not admit Austria to the family compact but wished to be admitted to the Franco-Austrian treaty of Versailles. Bouganville has been in France on a secret visit and is rumoured to be concerned in a new settlement on an uninhabited island. Encloses ff.192 to 201 about the Canada bills.
