Folio 224: Hertford to Halifax. Praslin believes that orders for the release of the Wolfenbuttel hostages have been sent. Choiseul states the orders to the West Indian governors have been sent in good time. He has delivered f.232 to Praslin (copy enclosed), with translation of f.177. Choiseul regrets British unreasonable insistence on every detail of the treaty and proposes measures reminiscent of the Hérouville plan. Choiseul propounded the French view on the maintenance of prisoners of war. He also said that the differences over Newfoundland presented no threat to peace. Encloses ff.234, 236.
