Folio 59: Halifax to Hertford. If French Canadians returning to France have to sell their property at low prices by the date agreed in the treaty, this is no concern of the governor [see SP 78/259, f.267]. The number wishing to return has been exaggerated. France has failed to keep to their obligation to pay French Canadian for letters of exchange and bills; he encloses ff.1, 3. Rejects complaints about treatment of French on Cape Breton island [Isle Royale], French claims about Acadians and protests at the reported burning of French fishing boats, until he has enquired further [see SP 78/259, ff.182, 202 and 225 to 255]. Graves is expected home shortly. Also rejects French claim to exclusive fishing rights between Riche point and Cape Bonavista. Refers to Dunkirk, the sluice of Bergues and the conduct of Desmaretz [see SP 78/259, f.182].
