Folio 168: Stanley to [Pitt]. Choiseul appears not to trust Bussy. Bussy was private secretary to the Duc de Richelieu and has close links with the Aiguillon family. There is ill feeling between it and Choiseul over the surrender of Belle-Isle. Starhemberg and Grimaldi have attacked Choiseul for his reception of Stanley, who is on easy terms with him and his sister. Choiseul said Pitt was reported as having revealed confidential talks with Bussy. Starhemberg argues that Pitt is using Stanley to deceive Choiseul and divide France from her allies. Austria wants the ending of both wars negotiated at Augsburg. France and the house of Austria hate each other. Compensation was discussed. Choiseul appears to have subjugated (subjugué) Pompadour.
Date and place: 1761 June 28 Paris.
