Folio 130: Stanley to [Pitt]. Choiseul had shown him Bussy's dispatches about Britain's refusal to negotiate dates. On receiving promises of the strictest confidentiality, Choiseul puts forward a proposal never to be attributed to him, the King being the only person privy to it. The dates had been put forward in such a way as to offer France a way of retreat, if repulsed. Bussy was showing all his dispatches to Starhemberg, Grimaldi, Czernichew, Gallitzin and Fuentes. Hence, the need for secrecy. The proposal [enclosed, see f.134] was discussed.
Date and place: 1761 June 18 Paris.
