Folio 114: Stanley to [Pitt]. Reports frank and friendly talk with Choiseul, who was critical of France's allies, in particular the temper of the Empress Queen, which he illustrated with an anecdote. She is always asking for subsidies. They had discussed financial resources, Hesse and Hanover. Stanley has said that `the King's heart was entirely British'. France's conduct of the war was discussed, including the neglect of her navy. Stanley reaffirmed Britain's support for Prussia. Choiseul deprecated always being expected to make the first proposals. Stanley had been well received by Choiseul's sister and quotes a compliment paid him by the King of France. Pompadour's brother has sought him out.
