Folio 176: Note of letter from Rouillé to Mirepoix, delivered by Mirepoix on Apr. 17. France cannot accept Britain's proposals that she should cede the whole peninsula, of which Acadia composes only a part, as well as the strip along the coast of the Baye Française[Bay of Fundy]. Nor can she endanger communications between Louisiana and Canada by concessions between Virginia and the Ohio. Before France replies to the Counter project [f.116] Britain must renounce her demands that France abandon the southern bank of the St. Lawrence and the lakes which feed it, the 20 league strip on the Bay of Fundy and the territory between the Ohio and the Wabash. France will negotiate on all remaining issues.
