Folio 286: Albemarle to Newcastle. St. Contest wants a settlement between the Empire and the Elector Palatine before the election of the King of the Romans. But, if the vote was not unanimous, the minority would not recognise it and France would support her allies.His talk with St. Contest included references to Vergennes, the attitude of the Empire, the King of Prussia, the Elector of Cologne and the laws relating to the election and the summoning of the Electoral Diet. There were accusations of insincerity against the King of England. Albemarle cannot consult. Mirepoix or Noailles, but will see Puyzieulx. Encloses f.296.
