Folio 268: Albemarle to Newcastle. St. Contest states that France will not join in asking the Empire to invite the votes of Prussia and the Electors of Cologne and the Palatinate for the election of the King of the Romans. He cannot understand why the Empire is unwilling to concede trifles, such as Pleisting [Pleystein], Ortenau and Falkenstein, in exchange for unanimity. There is no basis for the report of a French `army of demonstration' [see f.230]. On the contrary there have been troop reductions. Refers to Spain redressing British grievances and encloses packet from Keene [missing here].
Date and place: 1752 July 2/13 Compiègne.
