Folio 217: Albemarle to Holdernesse. Refers to possible French influence on Sardinia over the Spanish treaty and to St. Contest's reaction to his statement on the King of the Romans. The letters of condolence to the King and the Duc d'Orléans will be delivered. Neny has been appointed Imperial Commissary to the Brussels conference with Britain and Holland. Albemarle mentions Chaulnes, Madame Pompadour and Argenson in connection with Maillebois [see f. 215]. Talbot is dead. La Touche, Colonel Commandant of the Prince of Wuertemberg's regiment, succeeds him, Aubeterre having declined. Parliament has passed a resolution [f.225], because of the treatment of a Jansenist. The King has forbidden Parliament further action. The Archbishop [of Paris] hopes to be made a Cardinal. Naval intelligence is enclosed [f. 223].
