Folio 70: Holdernesse to Albemarle. Mirepoix has expressed interest in the negotiations between the Empire and Spain, with the mediation of Britain. Did they involve the neutrality of Italy? British policy was to maintain the peace, based on the Treaty of Aix-la-Chapelle. Britain took the view that a greater threat to peace came from the failure to settle points in dispute in Africa and America. The Commissaries had achieved nothing. Britain urged that negotiations should be continued through Mirepoix in London or Albemarle in Paris.
