Description

Folio 236: Albemarle to Holdernesse. He has obtained no satisfaction over the case of the British merchants living in Bordeaux [see f.137]. The French have complied with the terms of the Treaty of Commerce of Utrecht regarding the droit d'aubaine and the droit de fret, but only as an act of grace, claiming that Britain has not observed it and seeking the repeal of the Cambric Act. Monzone, Modenese Minister, denies reports that the Duke has asked the Pretender to mediate between himself and the Pope. He encloses the King's reply to Parliament [f.240].
