Folio 291: Thompson to Newcastle. Amelot promises no difficulty for British subjects in obtaining passports [exit permits] and agrees that ferry boat service should continue for six months subject to necessary safeguards; ferry boat fired on when approaching Calaispresumably in error; Amelot adds that British subjects who do not wish to leave France will be allowed to stay providing they behave themselves; Thompson suggested an agreement concerning maintenance of ferry service, interrupted by the Governor of Calais' actions.
