Folio 48: Thompson to Newcastle. Spanish satisfaction at news of Prussia's invasion of Silesia; Campoflorido wrote to his Court that Fleury is pleased at the invasion; Fleury wishes Spanish cooperation in backing the candidature of the Elector of Bavaria, or of the Elector of Saxony to the Imperial throne against that of Francis Stephen; France wishes to gain time while her economy recovers from the bad harvests and floods, and while Britain continues to weaken herself by her war against Spain. Spanish minister suggests to Elizabeth Farnese that France, while taking Spanish subsidy is liable to do a deal with Austria gaining territory in [Belgium] and again `leaving Spain in the lurch'; publication of Prussianmanifesto expected soon; the Pope has reportedly refused transit to both Austria and Neapolitan troops; d'Antin expected to escort galleon fleet, or to fetch back the treasure in his own warships.
