France has ambitions to acquire parts of Savoy, and territory in the Low Countries and hopes to attain this by playing one power against the other; both Austria and Spain hope for a favourable arbitration from France on the dispute about allodials or freeholds in Tuscany; Austria hopes France will persuade Turkey to make peace and dissuade Spain from attacking Austrian dependencies in Italy; Elizabeth Farnese hopes for Franco Spanish royal marriages for her children; France hopes that Sartini will obtain an important ministry in Spain; France is angry with Britain for her obstruction over Berg and Julich; Austria might be inclined to sell Luxembourg and border areas to France; France hopes to keep a hold over Austria through her influence over Turkey and Spain; recommends that Britain should follow a more aggressive policy against France. Date and place: 1738 Dec 10 Paris.
