Folio 257: Waldegrave to Newcastle. French Ministers seem to be delaying French reply to British proposal for a new treaty of alliance; believes Austria and France have already agreed on a settlement for Berg and Julich. Austrians seem to have no agreement with Spain, and would indeed like revenge against Spain for the ill-treatment of Austrian prisoners of war captured in Southern Italy.
