Folio 203: Newcastle to Waldegrave. Wishes to know whether France prefers to have a peace settlement on the basis of particular treaties, or whether she would welcome a general Treaty with the inclusion of all major powers who can be induced to participate; Fleury may shed further light on French reaction to the letter from the Pretender to Chauvelin, which the latter gave by mistake to Waldegrave; wishes to know if France is planning a close alliance with Austria or Spain, or both; Fleury must be convinced that suspicions that Britain tried to obstruct the [Treaty of Vienna 1735] are groundless and attributable to Chauvelin's machinations; Waldegrave is to try and dissuade Fleury from appointing Chavigny as envoy to Denmark; possible alliance between France and Sweden; Berg and Jülich; wishes to know French attitude to war between Turkey and Russia.
