Folio 175: Waldegrave to Newcastle. He expressed reproach to Fleury that Britain has not been informed of negotiations between France and Austria for a convention which has now almost been signed. Emperor may concede immediate possession of Lorraine to France; the `Stati del Presidii' to Don Carlos, and a little territory to the Duke of Savoy. France wants participation of Maritime Powers as guarantors particularly as Spain may be dissatisfied. Waldegrave warned that there was a danger of a general war if hostilities continued.
