Folio 237: H. Walpole to Newcastle. An embarrassed Fleury declines to sign the project for a settlement saying that the Duc d'Antin urged him not to do so. Chauvelin mentions that the French public and France's allies are opposed to the peace plan negotiations which should have been kept secret, and hints that a settlement arising from a French initiative would be more successful.
