Folio 99: Waldegrave to Newcastle. While France would generally welcome the peace proposals should they be acceptable to her Allies, Fleury is reluctant to accept them on her own and risk eventual isolation; he expresses awareness that Britain may ally with Austria and that the war may widen and escalate; Fleury's criticisms of proposals on Poland, Tuscany, Alsace; France not disposed to recognise the Pragmatic Sanction `for nothing'; Fleury suggests prayer to avoid a general war, which Waldegrave warns is likely to develop; Chauvelin seems satisfied with the lack of progress; Fleury will send the proposals to Spain; forces in Italy; Spanish plans to take Mantua; dissension amongst Allied Commanders.
