Folio 229: Poyntz to Newcastle. Fleury is hopeful of avoiding war with Austria and Spain and Poyntz fears he may lack resolution to support Britain in a war; Sinzendorf maintains that the Emperor made no firm commitment regarding the proposed royal marriages of Spanish Princes with Austrian Archduchesses; this may alienate Spain but if Spain were to pay subsidies to Austria the latter might be willing to furnish troops and ally with Spain in a war. Succession to Trier; Mecklenburg.
