Folio 222: Prior to Dartmouth. French believe all galley slaves arrested because of their religion have been freed but requests may be made on behalf of any overlooked. Mr. Shepherd's hostages will not be released and so he is willing to agree to a settlement. Handed in memorial concerning a sloop, the Three Brothers, taken in time of full peace. Has conferred with Pajot about project from Postmaster General for resuming postal service through France. Pontchartrain has promised Prior authentic copy of order sent to French Officer at Hudsons Bay arranging French surrender. Received letter from Pontchartrain saying that French had no officer in Bay or Straits but La Compagnie de Castor had moveable effects there, were ready to obey English, and surrender their fort. Replied that company could remove effects. Thinks Pontchartrain is purposely delaying so that French company may make maximum profit possible. Applied again to French Courts concerning English effects taken aboard Hamburg and Bremen vessels. Welden, former governor of Bengal, has left Paris for England.
