Policy and some case files selected. A decision was taken that New Towns Association records were suitable for transfer to the Public Record Office, although they are not public records.

Administrative / biographical background

The New Towns Association was set up in the late 1960's in response to suggestions from the Ministry of Housing and Local Government. It was set up as a permanent organisation to collect, evaluate, identify and appraise emerging problems, to provide secretariat services for the various committees (chairmen, general managers etc). Its key role was to facilitate consultation and provide a "clearing house" for central responses to government and others. The New Towns Association was wound up in 1992.
