The formal board structure of National Bus Company (NBC) comprised a main board which formulated policy, consisting of members (predominantly part time) appointed by the Secretary of State for Transport and an executive board (known initially as NBC Federation Limited and latterly as National Bus Management Limited) which implemented policy, consisting of executive directors and members of the main board. In addition, there were regular meetings of executive directors chaired by the Chief Executive.
