Folio 74: De Bacquoy to [Williamson]. Opponents of the House of Orange use argument that the States of Holland would be involved in conflict with France and England over Orange, should they accept responsibility for tutelage of the Prince of Orange. Holland and four of Zealand's towns ratify agreement concerning offices to be held by the Prince. States thank William Frederick of Nassau for his intervention in Groningen; States General will ratify treaty with Algiers and Tunis, and will trade with them, but will refrain from supplying war material. Provinces join in acceptance of guarantee to France of Dunkirk, and of treaty with Portugal. Dutch ships will attack Spanish pirates off the Portuguese coast. Swedish desire to be included in treaty with the Corsairs has come too late. The States of Holland decide in favour of renewal of the treaty with Brandenburg.
