Folio 45: De Bacquoy to [Williamson]. Dutch-Portuguese treaty negotiations. Dutch claims in connection with Brazil. Duke of Neuburg has expelled a Protestant minister and some burghers from Dusseldorf and was proceeding to do the same in Berg and Jülich despite warnings by the States. States have in retaliation expelled Capucins from Cleves. Dutch willingness to accommodate French demand for recognition of French ownership of Dunkirk providing that France recognises treaty concerning [Belgian] Netherlands, but this is dependant on the approval of all the Provinces. Spain will probably not protest about Dunkirk as she (probably) has a secret agreement with France. Apparent French reluctance to exchange ratifications with the United Provinces. De Witt's arguments in favour of Dutch recognition of French ownership of Dunkirk.
