These deal mainly with economic growth policy, and with the work of various economic development committees in connection with the performance of particular industries or industrial sectors. They arise from work undertaken by the National Economic Development Office on behalf of the National Economic Development Council, and include papers concerning the membership, terms of reference and general administration of that body. Readers should note that pieces FG 2/929-1700 were formerly assigned to this series in error; they have now been transferred to FG 5 as pieces 1-771.

The files are listed in the order of their former file references within each accession. Their original references were derived from a subject-based filing scheme (now lost), in which numerical codes were assigned to files on the basis of their subject matter. This scheme was terminated in 1967 and replaced by a new classification system in which NEDO's central files were assigned letter prefixes as well as numerical codes.

During the period of its active life the series of files in this series acted as NEDO's central filing system, and it therefore touches on most aspects of the Office's work. The following is a summary of the principal subjects that occur in FG 2. Where subjects appear as headings within the series, the relevant piece spans are indicated in brackets; however, these do not account for the occurrence of subjects outside headings.
