Ministry of Education and Department of Education and Science HM Inspectorate reports on the full and interim inspection of local education authority and non-local education authority maintained primary schools in England, Wales and Hong Kong, under the provisions of section 77 of the Education Act 1944.

The papers include some reports on all-age schools that survived the 1944 Education Act (the Act introduced, inter alia, the division between primary and secondary education at the eleven-plus age).

For the period 1956-1965 the reports have been transferred into single-year pieces, reflecting the large number of full school inspections performed during those years.

By counties (and, from 1956, by county boroughs) of England and Wales, the sequence being repeated for successive transfers: within a county or county borough, the records are arranged in alphabetical order of district.
