Folio 375: Dom Vicente de Sousa Coutinho to Marquis of Pombal. Lord Stormont has told the French government that Great Britain is renewing pressure on Portugal to pursue a pacific policy towards Spain. Vergennes is much concerned that Portugal will flatly refuse tomake any concession to Spain. The star of Maurepas is rising and that of De Choiseul is declining. Endorsed: `Sent the 5 Novemb. under Mr. Pinto's cover to the Marquis, to whom he writes nothing particular.'.
Date and place: 1776 Oct 30 Fontainebleau.
