Folio 329: L. Pinto de Sousa to Marquis of Pombal. Recounting his latest interview with Weymouth, in which latter stressed that if everything was restored to the status quo ante 17 July in Brazil, all would be satisfactorily and finally adjusted. But King George could on no account agree to Pombal's suggestion that the British should blockade Brest and Cadiz, as this would kindle a general European war, in which Britain could not afford to engage in the present circumstances.
