Folio 306: Marquis of Pombal to L. Pinto de Sousa. Is very glad to hear that Great Britain is now mobilizing her forces by land and sea, as Portugal has every right to expect her military and naval assistance. Spain and France are actively assisting the American rebels, whereas Portugal has rejected them. Suggests the British Fleet should blockade Brest and Cadiz.
Date and place: 1776 Aug 17 Lisbon.
