Folio 445: R. Walpole to Earl of Hillsborough. Captain Dashwood's arrest and imprisonment were his own fault, as he was `an accomplice in the defrauding of the King's Customs.' It was Walpole who obtained his release, contrary to what Dashwood alleges. `Perhaps it would have been prudent in Captain Dashwood not to have written officially about it.'.
Date and place: 1780 Dec 29 Lisbon.
