Folio 403: Earl of Hillsborough to R. Walpole. Apropos of Dashwood's claim that he is a naval officer, Hillsborough encloses a copy of his commission, which only entitles him to protection against Barbary pirates, and not to treatment and status of a regular naval officer. He leaves it entirely to Walpole's discretion how to handle this problem, and stresses that the King's commission should never be prostituted for carrying on a contraband trade. Pinto de Sousa has assured him `that there is no intention to give any obstruction that can be avoided to our exportation of the gold coin, but this is a matter of considerable importance, and well worthy of your attention.'.
