Folio 329: R. Walpole to Earl of Hillsborough. Encloses copies of his correspondence with Ayres de Sá over several incidents regarding privateers and warships and the Portuguese forts at São Julião and Belem (ff.332-42, 346-58). Rumours that French cloth will be admitted into Portugal, and that the Falmouth packet-boats will not be allowed to come up any higher than Belem. Portuguese navy promotions (f.344). Latest naval intelligence from Cadiz. Walpole thinks that the 1654 Anglo-Portuguese Treaty covers privateers and `all kinds of armed vessels', but awaits clarification and instructions from Hillsborough.
