Folio 237: R. Walpole to Earl of Hillsborough. Disagreeable imbroglio over the Portuguese government's demand that Portuguese sailors in the prizes Artois and La Perle should be released and set ashore. His discussions with Martinho de Mello de Castro on this, the refusal of the R.N. captains to allow these ships to be searched, Martinho de Mello's insistence, and his own efforts to find a compromise solution to save face on both sides. Relevant documentation enclosed.
