Folio 1: `Note delivered by the Chev. de Pinto.' Demands: (1) that whaling off the coast of Brazil should be discontinued (2) that Portuguese shipping off the Congo coast should not be interfered with, nor compelled to sell their cargoes of tobacco to British ships (3) that British warships and privateers using Portuguese ports should conform to article 18 of the 1654 Treaty (4) that recent discriminatory duties laid on Portuguese wines will provoke reprisals by the laying of additional duties on English and Irish exports of cloth, iron, butter, dried fish etc. to Portugal.
