Folio 298: Ayres de Sá e Mello to R. Walpole. Rebutts his arguments over contraband in neutral ships, and states British Admiralty cannot exercise any jurisdiction in Portuguese territorial waters. He will not in future acknowledge any such protests from Walpole, since `I will want the courage to lay them before Her Most Faithful Majesty, who with great reason would be much surprised that I should require her Royal Orders, in respect to such representations'.
