Folio 269: R. Walpole to Viscount Weymouth. Encloses copies of correspondence with Ayres de Sá over the outrage committed by Lieut. Lowe of HMS Chatham, and the resultant embargo laid on the latter (ff.272-88). His clarification of the incident, which arose out of an attempt to arrest a dangerous and insolent naval deserter, Francis Jones, ashore. Incident closed after Capt. Allen R.N. had made a formal apology. Also encloses copies of correspondence with Ayres de Sá over the imprisonment of Capt. Grey of the privateer Gibraltar at Lagos, who was subsequently released with his ship, but no satisfaction is yet given for his detention (ff.282-301).
