Folio 450: R. Walpole to Viscount Weymouth. Court still at Queluz. Hopes that R.N. officers will in future refrain from violating Portuguese neutrality. Suggests a proclamation to this effect might be published, which `would prevent malicious persons from assertingthat the irregular proceedings of HM's officers are not sufficiently discouraged'. Has written Consul Lempriere at Faro and Admiral Duff at Gibraltar on need to avoid giving offence to Court of Portugal.
Date and place: 1778 Sept 5 Lisbon.
