Folio 30: R. Walpole to Viscount Weymouth. Pombal has informed him of the contents of his latest dispatches to Pinto de Sousa in London. These amount to the conviction that the Spanish expedition mobilising at Cadiz under the command of Cevallos has the conquest of the whole of Brazil as its objective, and that the French naval forces mobilising at Brest and Toulon are intended to support the Americans against the British. Pombal urges that the British Navy should be ordered to blockade Brest and Cadiz.
