Folio 200: Viscount Weymouth to R. Walpole. Reprimands him for not having informed him earlier of Pombal's reaction to Spanish demands for satisfaction for Portuguese aggression in South America. Pinto de Sousa has assured him that Pombal has told him that as soon as his own orders reach South America, everything will be replaced in the status quo ante 17 July. Hopes this is correct, and that King Joseph will `appease the resentment of the King of Spain'. Walpole to continue to press this on Pombal. King George greatly pleased with the Portuguese edict of 4 July, denouncing the North Americans as rebels, and Pombal to be informed accordingly.
