Folio 210: Marquis of Pombal to R. Walpole. The Imperial Envoy, Lebzeltern, has claimed Bolts as an Imperial subject, entitled to Portuguese favour and protection. Pombal is endeavouring to find out the truth, but has ordered that the ship not be allowed to export any Brazilian tobacco or other cargo for the East Indies.
Date and place: 1776 Mar 31 Lisbon.
